    Summary

He had always known that The Doctor’s passion could never be contained. Not by fear, nor by the prospect of death itself. There would always be another theory, another experiment, another question demanding to be answered.

And perhaps that was what he most cherished about him.

    “Don’t leave me, Zandik.”

    Zandik has an attic.

He never intended for anyone to live there, but somehow there's a man named Feofan in it now.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Catching the edge of a wrapper with fingers still trembling from laughter, Zandik unfolds the little segment's "offering." He holds it to the light, sniffs it… And once again, his raspy laugh fills the room:

“Feofan… look at that,” a misshapen little drop bounces on his open palm. “It’s nicotine!”

    Bookmarker's Notes

“Zandik’s death would have destroyed you, had ‘we’ not been there. I remember. It was an oversight not to consider your grief…”

The album Dottore handed him contains five spreads. Five locks of hair, the pale color of winter rivers. Pasted inside are a few lines torn from journals and reports—impossible to decipher without reading closely. Drops of blood. All that remains of "them."

    Summary

Game theory, as a branch of mathematics, studies processes where the interests of opposing parties inevitably clash or entwine. When one makes a move, the other is compelled to respond.

Zandik is the type of man who is truly captivated by the game itself, while Feofan is the one who prefers to rewrite the rules to his own advantage as the game unfolds.

    Bookmarker's Notes

To hints that he is being slightly over-the-top, Zandik tends to react quite dramatically: he tries to balance "too much" with "absolute nothing," abruptly vanishing, burying himself headfirst in research and work, avoiding any accidental or non-accidental meetings—Feofan has made peace with this and learned to draw boundaries before Zandik inadvertently crosses them.
