Summary
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry crouched on the mountain over the lake. The windows were bright and glittering, like they’d taken the stars and trapped them behind glass, and the towers and turrets reached towards the actual stars in the sky like fingers of a giant. It was huge and wonderful and it made the nerves in Harry’s stomach leap into his throat.
For the first time since Hagrid had knocked down the door to that tiny shack and told him the truth about his parents, about himself, Harry started to believe that maybe this was real — really, properly real — that he was here, he would learn magic, and nothing could take it away or make him go back to the normal world ever, ever again.
Then something reached for him out of the black of the water.
