A moment of peace was something Five could never afford.
No amount of blood sweat and tears could ever bring him to it, or even the blood sweat and tears from those around him.
He had to work for everything, time and time again. The smell of death and rot clung to him constantly, no matter how far into the past or future he seemed to travel.
That's why it was so liberating, to finally let go of the apocalypse and uncertainty of his future after Allison pushes the button.
Five was finally free.
At least, he thought he was.
