Salem’s eyes burned.
“OZMA–!”
Tick. Tock. Tick.
Time slowed to a crawl, distorting the air around them. Ozpin was panting heavily, and Oscar could feel blood dripping from his nose, proof that he was pushing them both to their limit. Then a green light began to fill the room. It emanated outward from their chest, building in strength, almost blinding. The hum of magic soared in their souls and Ozpin quirked his lips in a small smile.
“Let’s get you out of here,” he said softly. “What do you say?”
Oscar let his presence lean against Ozpin’s in their shared mind, exhaustion and gratitude swirling in the soul link.
‘Please.’
Anywhere was better than here.OR: When Hazel helps Oscar escape from Salem, things go a little differently. Salem catches on too soon, Ozpin is desperate to get Oscar to safety, and the rescue party doesn't arrive. A rushed spell, a misplaced semblance, and a little bit of bad luck create a twist in fate that nobody - not even Ozma - could have predicted.
(OR OR: Thanks to an escape attempt gone wrong, Oscar gets blasted back in time, drops out of the sky in Mistral, and lands at Qrow's feet. Oh, and he's been turned into a bird.)
