Geppeto’s puppet held the lamp in its hand, spring locks clicking in greeting. Its other hand gave a little wave to its companion for good measure.
“Are you–” Gemini gasps “You are!”
“Finally, someone’s talking. To me!” the puppet guide (friendly guide puppet?) exclaims.
Its springs reacted after hearing the exclamation. It guessed it relates to Gemini’s sentiment.
Headcanon that puppets can’t audibly talk unless asked to by a human or are built solely for it. However, they can communicate to each other via spring clicks and body language.

Where did he get that idea from?! Gintoki clears his throat and sets the record straight very patiently, very authoritatively.
“I’m not depressed, Patsuan, I just have a little less energy and find less enjoyment in things I used to like.”
“That’s a symptom!”
It’s a shame that Shinpachi can’t identify depression in people very well. He’s listing off advice that would be very useful if Gintoki was depressed, things about being open about your struggles and seeking help. Gintoki isn’t depressed, though. Shinpachi should probably not become a therapist.
or: a food shortage and all the talk around it might have sent Gintoki spiraling, if he was the kind of person who thought about his issues at all ever. He's not, though, and so he's fine.
