“Oh, shit, kid. You must be freezing,” Jason said, beginning to take off his coat. “Here, take this.”
Tim stared at the offered clothing. “I’m okay.”
Jason persisted. “Just take it, Timbo. Don’t need you freezing to death.” He curled his arms around himself and scooted closer to Tim. “How long you been out here, anyway?”
Hours. “Not long,” Tim said.
Jason stared hard at him. “Sure.”
“Hey!” Tim exclaimed. “It’s true!”
For the first time that night, Jason cracked a smile. “I’m sure it is,” he said, putting his arms up in surrender.
