It was week before Akira’s birthday.
Akechi is a detective.
Two facts that, by fate or some cosmic joke, had to be intertwined. At least, that’s what Akechi told himself, adjusting an unassuming pair of glasses on his nose as he behind a wall in Shibuya’s underground mall. Just ahead, Akira stood in his green Rafflesia apron, smiling at a bright-eyed customer clutching a bouquet of yellow-and-pink blooms meant for her daughter’s graduation. A quick glance at clock on the wall said it was almost lunchtime, which meant Akira will be taking his break by then, and Akechi still hasn’t gotten any answers to this confounding question:

Aether and Lumine loved their family; how could they not? No matter how much Aether and his sister traveled, they always made sure to come back on holidays, calling daily if they could and ensuring they made time for Tommy and Wilbur whenever they called or needed help.
(The last thing Aether remembered before his sister was ripped away from him, before the eternal darkness where he was unable to sleep, unable to fully wake, only drift in a mind-numbing emptiness, was the flash of guilt that hit him at the realisation he wouldn’t be able to reply to Tommy.)
