Summary
She's not quite prepared for what she sees. He's at the edge of the bed, still dressed, arms wrapped around his body, and rocking. Slow, measured. It's a to-and-fro meant as a self-stimulatory soothe. He's trying to keep it together. Head down, tears freely falling onto his soiled pants. There's already a fresh chuck underneath him, and Dana doesn't want to think about that—she didn't think to check the back of his pants as he was leaving. Although it's not like he gave them a chance, retreating with his back to the wall. He knew what they would see.
The breakdown is coming.
Or

Summary
Jack's on a plane, headed west, with Robby beside him. He's on this plane to go meet his little brother, whom he hasn't seen in 35 years. He's on this plane, moreover, because it would seem that Robby must also have a long-lost sibling in the California prison system.

Summary
Jack has, for as long as he can remember, used self-harm as a coping mechanism for the trauma he received at war and during childhood. However, he has been using it more often lately to control the damage and its effects as they creep up on him as the 10-year anniversary of his amputation approaches.
Robby is forced to see Jack, steady, calm and stable Jack, in a new light and control the damage he has done to himself over so much time, resulting in complicated conversations and feelings.
Neither Robby nor Jack knows if their relationship will survive before it even begins.
