Summary
After discovering the Order of the Guardians temple ruins, Talia Al-Ghul took it upon herself to hunt down the Grand Guardian of the miraculous. Upon locating Master Wang Fu, Talia tortured the feeble man into relinquishing Guardianship of the Miracle Box to her.
Before relinquishing Guardianship, Wang Fu informed Talia that the miraculous could only be wielded by the reincarnations of previous miraculous wielders. In other words, Talia wouldn’t be able to wield the miraculous herself and thus, wouldn’t be able to access the wish she desired. However, as the newly appointed Grand Guardian, Talia was privy to the identities of the designated miraculous wielders.
Talia first discovered the identity of the Ladybug miraculous wielder, whose name didn’t ring a bell. Talia then moved on to discover the identity of the Black Cat mirauclous wielder, who, in a twist of luck, turned out to be her own son.
An underlying sense of dread accompanied Talia’s excitement as she recalled what Wang Fu had told her before his untimely death- that the souls of the Black Cat and Ladybug miraculous wielders were linked. Talia hoped the Ladybug miraculous wielder, Marienette Dupain-Cheng, would be a worthy partner for Damian.

Summary
After returning the Butterfly and Peacock miraculous to the miracle box, Marinette is content to let her identity as Ladybug fade into obscurity.
Now, in her twenties and living in New York, Marinette is busy with her internship at Style Queen Headquarters. Through years of hard work, she has made a name for herself in the fashion scene under her MDC alias.
Ready to make her first public appearance while presenting as MDC, Marinette plans to attend a gala hosted by the infamous Wayne family alongside her mentor Audrey Bourgeois. That the gala was hosted in Gotham City was of little concern to Marinette, who had long since been desensitized to the prospect of danger.

Marinette was happy to let Ladybug fade into obscurity after returning the Butterfly and Peacock miraculous to the Miracle box.
Moving to New York and accepting an apprenticeship with Aubrey Bourgeois at Style Queen Headquarters allowed Marinette to move past her complicated life in Paris. Devoting all her time and energy to her career had paid off, as Marinette’s fashion designer allis as MDC had reached celebrity status.
Attending a gala hosted by the infamous Wayne family as Aubrey’s plus-one sounded like the perfect opportunity to make her public debut as MDC. There was only one problem: the event would be held in Gotham City.
Rationally, Marinette knew she should feel apprehensive about visiting the city with the highest crime rate in the world. However, having spent most of her teenage years fighting a deranged supervillain had ruined her sense of danger.

Summary
Marinette’s life changed when she found the Ladybug earrings in her bedroom though, not in the way you’d expect.
Unlike in the show, Marinette successfully passes over the Ladybug miraculous to Alya. Whom Marinette was certain would be a better Ladybug than she would’ve been.
Cut to three years later and Marinette has grown to resent her decision. Not because she thinks she could’ve been a better Ladybug than Alya. It was because Marinette could see how the stress of being Ladybug had worn on Alya over the years.
Desperate to help Alya in any way she could, Marinette was willing to do anything Alya could've asked of her.
That was until Alya revealed herself as Ladybug and Marinette’s life changed again, possibly for the worse…
