Summary
Phoenix pinches the bridge of her nose. “One night. One night without whatever all this is. My kingdom for one night.”
“There’s no all this!” Rooster protests. Like a liar.
Hangman takes his arm back, slides off his chair and goes back to the dart board. Rooster tries not to feel cold.
“Of course not, Rooster,” Hangman says, just short of condescendingly. “I could never bring a yankee home, and I respect you too much to hit it and quit it.”
Or
5 times Rooster didn’t tell Hangman where he was from + 1 time he did

Summary
Introducing Buck to Sophia was a mistake.
They’d been helping her move in.
Eddie had thought it would be nice, you know? Introduce his sister to his best friend? God knows, it had been long enough. But then the moment Sophia had laid eyes on him, in his eight year old painting top and his pizza stained cut off shorts, she’d got this look in her eye, this predatory little glint like when she was young and trying to steal Eddie’s french fries, or in the plotting stages of a particularly stupid prank.
or, Eddie believes his best friend and his sister are dating, he goes suitably insane

Summary
Swanwick gave Bruce a level, unamused look. "Mr. Wayne," he said. "Please tell me you know why you're here."
Bruce shrugged. "Won the lottery, and first-place prize is the government marries me off to an alien."
(Or: in a universe where Krypton took an extra thirty-odd years to implode, Kal-El was sent to Earth as an adult, in advance of the ship containing the only other surviving Kryptonians; and a quirk of Kryptonian law means negotiating refuge, potential resettlement, and an alliance with the Kryptonians in general is dependent on marriage between a Kryptonian and a human. Bruce did what it took to make sure that that human would be him, instead of some poor unprepared civilian—but his efforts to learn more about the aliens, what they want and why they're here, and how, if necessary, to kill them ... don't go the way he's expecting them to.)
