The wolves prowled around the bait swinging from the tree branch, one of them letting out a mournful howl. Their dark eyes glittered with hunger.
Albert Mason hovered over his camera, ready for the winning shot.
“Good boys… Hungry boys-”
Mason’s cajoling came to an abrupt end when a second howl - deeper and fueled with enthusiasm that sent a thrill down Arthur’s spine - tore through the air. The animal responsible for it burst into the scene, black fur bristling, its teeth bared in a snarl tipped in red. Crimson red claws lashed out at the gathered wolves, scattering them away as the wolf pack returned the vicious greeting with fangs of their own.
It wasn’t any animal Arthur had seen before.
