Summary
How to harvest the most agony? How best to twist the knife?
While immediately swapping all of them would be shocking and difficult for both sides, it wouldn’t bring the Specter the maximum yield. To swap those once connected would increase the amount of suffering, but it still wouldn’t be perfect. There was only one solution: make it random.
Force both sides into a paranoid spiral of wondering who was next, of when they would be tossed into a role they would hate, of what would become of the life they had slowly carved out.
Make the recently-turned Killers spend time with the people they’ve been slaughtering, only to see those same people take up the mantle of murderer. Allow those separated by roles reconnect, only to rip them apart again. Yes, this would do the trick.

The stone room was rather dungeon-like… though maybe it was only meant to house the elite because it was lavishly decorated with a gorgeous chandelier and an ornate mirror positioned in the middle of the room. The windows were barred with wrought iron woven into intricate shapes, and there were patterns carved into the floor that he couldn’t even begin to make sense of.
Maybe Kuroki might have thought it cool if he hadn’t been virtually kidnapped to get there.
Oh, and the floating coffins that were dotted around the room definitely didn’t help.
“Oh god… are we dead?!” Kuroki said, his voice almost jarring against the delicate crackle of green flames from the torches on the walls.
“Well, we were all crammed in that one coffin. I really hope the afterlife isn’t that disorganized,” Enma said. “But I guess that explains the fire demon.”
“Fire demon?!”
What if all three Yuus (from the novel, manga, and game) were sent to the same world?
