    Summary

According to Gordon, this whole human craze had spread around the island like some crazy sickness, not leaving any engine out of the warpath, and he had had about enough of it. Surely, enough things had changed in the past few months without all this stuff and nonsense being added into the whole dilemma?

    Summary

"This granted me a thought. An idea. Tell me, Edward, have you ever wanted to leave those rails?"

"No," Edward said firmly. "Derailments hurt. Every engine knows that."

"No." She laughed to herself. "Not like that. I am offering you the chance to become human."

    Summary

In recent years, James has become a "problem engine", and the issue with problem engines is they think far too much of themselves and far too little of others. After an expensive stunt resulting in the destruction of Tidmouth Sheds, Sir Topham feels like he has no choice for the safety of his railway but to call in an expert from the mainland who has past experience rectifying behavioural problems with heritage engines.

"It's for the best," he tells himself as he makes the call, knowing that if James causes another incident like that, there will be little he can do to prevent his removal from mainline service. He intends to keep a close eye on the new driver, but railway life gets in the way, and he trusts the man to do his job well. After all, he has come highly praised from many other railways.

It seems, however, that the ways of Sodor are not the ways of the mainland, and James is about to find this out the hard way.

    Summary

*Period Typical Attitudes - This is set in 1959 *

Gordon was rather happy with his life, as it stood. He had his son, and he had his job, and there was nothing else that he wanted out of life. But when he is introduced to a new fireman, all of that starts to change. His new fireman, Henry Stainer, is quiet and soft spoken, the opposite of everything that Gordon is.

The flame in his heart brings to light long hidden secrets from both sides of the fence, and proves that you can never truly run from your past.

    Summary

His brother and Henry had always been close, but now, it looked like it had turned into something more, at least for Gordon. “You have a crush,” Scott said at last.

“I do not!” Gordon responded quickly. “What would give you that idea?”

“Your goo-goo eyes,” Scotsman said sarcastically at his brother. It was so fun to watch him squirm when he had him backed up against the wall. “At a certain green tender engine.” He gestured with his eyes to Henry, who had disappeared over the bridge to the mainland.

“I do not have a crush on Henry!” Gordon snapped angrily.

“Your face says otherwise,” Scott laughed, and indeed, Gordon's face had gained a high light blush as he found a rather interesting patch of track to examine.

    Summary

It was funny, really, how the world could shatter without notice, and never find itself lined up again. It was no secret that Gordon couldn't stand change. And there had been so much change recently.

He liked predictability. He liked doing the same thing day in and day out. Sure, Thomas might find that boring, but there was a sense of comfort in routine. A sense of rightness.

That was why all this change was rubbing him the wrong way. Surely, Edward could come back and Nia could go to keep Philip company. If he complained enough to the Controller, he might get listened to...

    Eventually.

    Summary

What if Gordon wasn't so happy to be streamlined in The Great Race?

Streamlined…” the Fat Controller thought to himself. “That would make him faster.” He looked up at Gordon ominously. “Brilliant idea, Thomas. I could streamline Gordon and take him instead. He's bound to win.”

It was hard to gauge which engine looked more irritated at the suggestion.

“I told you, sir, I don't want to go,” said Gordon firmly. “Take anybody else. Everyone else wants to go.”

“You're going and that is final.” The Fat Controller crossed his arms. “I've had enough of your stuff and nonsense. You will go, and you will be streamlined.”

Gordon glared for a minute before catching the rest of what the Fat Controller had said. “Streamlining, sir?”

    Summary

“So why does he call you ‘little brother'? You're older, right?”

“I was built first. That's correct,” Gordon answered confidently. “But if I'm older, that could be debatable.”

“But that doesn't make any sense,” Thomas said petulantly.  “If you're older, he's the little brother.”

“It's a long story,” Gordon began. “For I didn't come alive like other engines.”

    Summary

"We have gathered here today to witness the execution of a traitor."

In the thousands of alternate realities we come across the one where Finn never saved Poe on the Star Destroyer.

After the information was ripped from Poe's head, he was useless to the First Order, fit only to be used as First Order propaganda. Finn dropped back into the ranks, nameless, agent of the First Order, never to be heard from again.

Poe's execution from three different points of view:

    1. Poe Dameron
A crowd roared around him and Poe struggled to keep his head up high. He'd failed.

    2. Kes Dameron
The wood creaked under Kes' feet as he walked back into his homestead, the scent of warm damp wood filling his nose. He closed the door behind him, kicking dirt into the air. The smell of petrichor filled the room. It was the smell of home.

    3. Beebee-Ate
Beebee-Ate was, all things considered, feeling rather pleased with himself. He had completed his mission, and now he just had to wait for Poe to make his way back from Jakku, and when he did, he was going to pat his head and give him a nice refreshing oil bath.

    Summary

"We're soldiers, Hunter. What else are we supposed to do?"

Not for the first time over the past several months, Echo was left with the feeling that he'd made the wrong decision. Picked the wrong team. Should he have joined Rex and the 501st from the beginning? He wasn’t sure. He didn’t know.

Rex had pushed him, told him, and it had been a split decision. Old ghosts versus new horizons. He’d chosen the new. So much for loyalty.

He turned his body to face the hull of the Havoc. The Bad Batch had never known the old Echo, never had anything to compare him to, couldn’t look at him with pity, expecting something more than the broken shell of a man.

Echo was still Echo, that just didn't mean anything anymore.

    Summary

Echo was the first to go. It had been sudden.

He’d lent forwards, clutched at the cybernetics in his chest, gasped, and died.

The others had rushed forwards, but there had been nothing that they could do. “The cybernetics failed,” muttered Tech, his eyes dimmed with grief. “Should have seen it coming.”

“He’s with his brothers now.” Hunter picked up Echo’s body and cradled it next to his chest.

They buried him in the backyard of the small planet they had settled on after the fall of the Empire.

“How long do you think we have left?” Tech asked.

    "Does it matter."

“No. No, I suppose it doesn’t.” Tech looked down at Echo’s grave. “He wasn’t much older than us.”

The Bad Batch all survive the Clone Wars, the fall of the Empire, but nothing, not even Hunter, could protect them from the steady march of time.
