“You okay, Alex?” She whispers to him, reaching a hand up to run through his hair.
“Mmm...” He pulls her closer, slides a thumb along her hipbone.
It’s not quite an answer, and she hums and asks again, “Do you want me to take care of you? You deserve the rest.”
“Please.” His sleepy response makes her rock against his thigh, pleased that he wants it so much, wants her so much, even like this.
She always asks, never wants him confused or anxious, the second he gives her the go-ahead, she’s all in. She skims back down his chest until she’s wrapping her fingers around him again, and his eyes fall back closed, exhaling slowly. He’s always free with his affection in private; he’s never been big on PDA, but the tension he’s been keeping in his shoulders lately hasn’t gone unnoticed by her. She gives him all the tender touching she usually can’t in front of other people. She gives a whimper of her own when his thigh twitches up, and she rocks forward against him, shivering at the way his body hair rubs against her.

Now she’s crying for a different reason, after he had bathed her and dried her, before she stopped him from dressing her in her pajamas. She reaches her arms up to wrap around his neck, and he gives a soft laugh, pressing a kiss to the side of her neck. She’s so much more emotional, too; it would have embarrassed her if it had been anyone but Casey. She grips the back of his undershirt, tugging lightly, until he pulls back enough so they can pull it over his head together. When he settles between her thighs, he’s careful to keep his weight off of her, and she smiles, dipping her fingers into his dimples. “It’s okay, Alex, the baby is the size of a bean.”

She did her best not to pout or grumble, because his care was making her feel worse. They had so many other things to do than clean her up. They had barely made any headway in the case, and Alan Wake had just washed up onshore after thirteen years. They didn't have time to worry about some cuts and bruises. And she certainly wasn't about to tell her partner about the way her back and shoulders ached. She hadn't felt any blood soak through her sweater, so clearly it wasn't a concern.
