The City of Ninjago had been attacked once again, this time by Kalmaar and the serpent Wojira. The team had been getting civillians to safety whilst fighting off the armed forces that came from the sea before something happened and Jay got injured.
Kai watched as his little sister grew more and more determined to save Jay and he knew that she was about to do something awful. In order to stop her, he must go through with a transformation that will steal him away from his family.
But it's all worth it, as long as his little sister is safe

Their personalities were slightly different compared to modern ninjago (Cole was a bit more distant and introverted, Kai was a bit more serious and grumpy. Summary
It had been really quite funny at first, watching Kai bumble around and say stupid things after he got bit. It was nice to have something to laugh at, and to Nya it made their new life feel just that little bit more normal.
But it’s starting to get less funny the longer it goes on. In fact, it doesn’t take very long for it to start to scare Nya.
It becomes quickly apparent that Kai is unable to care for himself like this when Nya catches him tripping over himself trying to put his pajamas on, which she had had to explicitly and clearly tell him to do because he, for some reason, didn’t think of it himself.

Summary
Summer is sweltering this year. Wu had said something about it being especially harsh this year, for some reason. It was hot through the winter, and hotter still as summer drags on.
And drag it does.
To Kai, every day feels like several as he tries and fails to keep himself cool. His temperature runs hotter than normal anyway, and the sun is only making it worse. The others whinge and complain, but it isn’t crippling for them like it is for Kai. He has a near constant headache, he guzzles water at almost all times, and is dizzy whenever he moves even remotely quickly.

“It’s the daddy daughter dance,” she finally sniffs, wiping her nose on the back of her hand. “At school.” Kai stills. “All the girls in school have someone to bring them, ‘cept me.”

A moment later, the gentle scuffing of movement can be heard, and Nya’s bedroom door creaks open. He can hardly see her, but her eyes shine in the moonlight coming through the living room windows.
“Kai?” her voice does not sound as if she just woke up. He squeezes his eyes shut and rubs his face with his palms, growing more agitated by the second.
“Go back to bed, Nya,” he says, lowly. He struggles to keep the aggravation out of his voice, but he does his best. Kai doesn’t yell at Nya, ever. He doesn’t lash out, or scream at her, no matter what. “Just ran into the couch.”
“I couldn’t sleep anyway,” she admits, pushing her door the rest of the way open and wandering out of the doorway. Her hair is in two messy plaits draped over her shoulders, and she’s wrapped in her blanket. “I was waiting for you to get back.”

She could get out, if she wanted to, but she can’t bring herself to do it. Not while her brother lays on the ground in front of her, his arm up, face scrunched in concentration and agony, bending the flames as far away from her as he can.

He finds, a few seconds later, the source of the sound. A little girl, covered in dust and ratty clothes, clutching a piece of cloth that may be a blanket, sits in the middle of a small dip in the street. She’s wailing, tears making tracks down her face, cutting through the dust. Her hair is black, and her eyes are wide and brown.

The child in front of Kai is borderline feral. In his opinion, at least. Her hair is red and matted, and though she’s absolutely devouring the can of beans in her grip, her eyes stay on him.
He can appreciate her wariness, how high her guard is kept up. He’d never say it outloud, and really he won’t even admit it to himself, but she reminds him a lot of himself. She’s a careful little fucker, and she refuses to let him too close. In the world they live in, she has to be.
He finishes his can of beans and tosses it to the side. He stands, stretching his arms above his head and listening to his bones crack. Wyldfyre glares at him, like she always does, but finishes off her can and follows his lead.

Summary
Nya’s ear is pressed against her brother’s chest, one of his hands holding her by her shoulder, the other covering her exposed ear. Even so, she can hear someone screaming down the hall.
They’ve been captured, locked in this cell for over two days now. At the very least, Nya thinks, they got her and Kai together. She couldn’t imagine being trapped here alone.
Kai has been doing everything within his power to protect her so far, picking fights and throwing himself at anyone who comes near. He’s trying to gain their favor, but not in a good way.
They haven’t been tortured yet, but they both know it’s coming.
