Слова прозвучали в ответ сухо и резко, выплюнутые сквозь крепко стиснутые зубы, почти зло. Мастер и бровью не повел, в лице даже не изменившись, только руки выправив, машинально сжав и разжав пальцы. Посмотрел на него весомо, выразительно, не страшась, глаза в глаза. Он слышал все глубоко спрятанное: отчаяние, тревогу, надрыв. Он знал его так хорошо, он знал его, он писал его своей рукой.

He’s sat down on the couch now, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, shoulders all tense again, and Blanc is hit with the urge to reach forward and sink his hand into his neck like he did yesterday. But then again, pent up as Jud is, what was acceptable to him last night might not be such a good idea now. If Blanc being in his vicinity right now seems like a welcome presence, he’s pretty sure Jud would explode if he were to poke at him the wrong way.
“Are you sure,” Blanc says, “that you’re alright with me goin'?”
Jud looks at him then, skittish, from the corner of his eye. His body is still turned away from Blanc’s, jittery, his knee bouncing. “I’ll be okay,” Jud says. “Promise I’ll behave.”
“Sure,” Blanc says. “Because you’re so good at behavin'.”

Jack froze.
Ms. Campbell seemed as caught off guard as Jack himself, the smile on her face faltering as the words sank in.
