Not wanting to look at who’d been calling him, he opened messages first. The most recent one, sent an hour ago, was from Sid. The start of the message reads “Just wanted to say that I’ve got your back…” before cutting off in the preview of the messages' opening page.
“Oh my god, people actually think we're gay. Sidney Crosby thinks I’m gay.” Mack could not believe it, so he just looked at Will in disbelief. How had something so innocent gotten blown so far out of proportion. Was the internet so desperate after Heated Rivalry for some actual gay hockey players that they had fit Mack and Will into their narrative?

Summary
Will knows Mack isn’t trying to hurt him.
But somewhere between rookie year, late-night hotel rooms, and becoming inseparable in San Jose, their “casual” thing stopped feeling casual to Will a long time ago. Mack still kisses girls at parties after spending the entire day begging Will to come over. Still looks at him like he’s the center of his universe without realizing what that does to him.
Back in Boston for Marathon Monday, old friendships resurface, old feelings crack open, and Will starts realizing how much of himself he’s quietly handed over to one person.
