Billy sighed, tipping his head back and closing his eyes for a second. "You didn't know how to have a friend," he said lowly.
Robin flinched.
"You know how to run missions. How to do threat assessments. How to protect people from a distance where they can't see you." Billy's voice was softer now. Not forgiving. Just... tired. "But you didn't know how to just... have a friend. So you did the only thing you knew how to do. You watched."
Robin's jaw worked. "I am not—" he started.
"You put a tracker on me, Damian." Billy's voice stayed even. "You watched me every night for two weeks."
Robin's hands were trembling. He pressed them flat against his thighs.
"I know," he said. "I know. I—"
He stopped.
Billy looked at him. And then, slowly, deliberately, Billy reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. Robin's head turned slightly to track it. To track the way Billy's thumb found the edge of the case.
Billy popped the case off and Robin made a sound. Small. Almost a gasp.
Billy looked at the tracker. Small. Black. Custom. Wedged neatly into the gap between the phone and the case. It would have been invisible to anyone who didn't know what they were looking for. Billy held it up.
"This yours?"
Robin didn't answer. Billy looked at it for a long moment. Then he looked at Robin.
Then he said quietly, "I'm not mad about the tracker."
Robin shifted his weight slightly, one foot to the other. "You're not."
"No." Billy shrugged. "I'm mad that you didn't ask." He looked at the tracker. At the tiny device in his palm. "You want to know where I go, don't you? Every night. When the dot disappears?"
Robin's fingers flexed on his arms. Billy heard the leather creak.
"Yes," he said.
"I know you do." Billy's voice was gentle now. "And I'm going to tell you. But not because you tracked me. Not because you took it." He looked up. "Because you're going to ask me. Right now. Out loud. And I'm going to answer."
