Alice blubbed again and let out a soft giggle. “Uhm. I need legal papers. Birth certificates. All that jazz. I think Leslie said she can't be more than three weeks? I think?”
Silence on the other side. Jason removed the phone to make sure one of them didn’t accidentally hang up or mute the other. Nope, Tim was still connected.
“Yes, it’s a baby. Don’t tell B. Or Alfie. I’ll tell them myself.”
“A ba—“
“Yes, Tim. A baby. Try to keep up."

The cat followed Jason step for step back to where he had hidden his bike. It meowed one last time and Jason crouched to hold out his free hand towards the feline. The cat gave it a distrustful sniff but moved to bump Jason’s fist anyway.
“Thanks, buddy,” Jason whispered. “You saved this baby’s life."
