Varian; the Prince of Corona, the (secretly adopted) son of King Fredrick and Queen Arianna, has a few problems he needs sorted out; he doesn’t feel worthy of being a Prince, the boy he was raised with is turning into someone he may or may not like, and even worse, he really doesn’t wanna be king someday.
Hugo; The trusted Equerry of the Prince, best friend of the Prince, son of Captain Donella of the royal guard, and he has a few problems too. Something he had wanted since he was young isn’t super appealing anymore. Now all he wants is a life of adventure, and of Varian.

10 years since he destroyed the portal. He felt at peace knowing no more ghosts would come through, but it had given him a permanent Fenton Target on his back.
10 years since he killed Memento.
Did he kill them? He wasn’t sure if ghosts could really die.

“One; It’s not yours. Two; I. Don’t. Care,” Tommy hissed.
“Come on, just give up the cart! I know you want to,” The man mocked.
“Why do you want it?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Eh, more room for me,” the man shrugged.
Tommy stood still for a moment. Then he had an idea. He might get beaten to a pulp, but even he knows this guy doesn’t want a fight. He wants Tommy to be a good little boy and run home to his mommy.
Tommy chuckled and took a step forward. “Well, if you aren’t going to give me my paints…”
The man stood his ground but the trace of unease was still on his face despite his sturdy posture.
“I’ll have to improvise,” Tommy grinned.

Summary
In a world where killing dragons is everything, Varian is nothing. Maybe that’s why, when he has the opportunity to kill the most dangerous one of all, he hesitates. He lets it free. Unbeknownst to him, this hesitation changes everything, and the infuriatingly mysterious dragon rider who nearly kills him doesn’t make things any easier. Now on top of the crippling pressure to make his dad proud, Varian has to face the fact that everything he thought he knew about dragons was wrong. Especially when he somehow manages to befriend a dragon himself.
