To prove it, his plan is both simple and stupid: asking Mavis to seduce the older man and push him to reveal his true motivations.
Mavis is appalled by the fact her own husband would ask her to bait her father-in-law because of his baseless paranoia, but she ends up accepting. After all, it just means she'll have to dress more seductively at home when he isn't here and be more provocative towards Harold, it's not like the situation will derail in any way.
