“Olesya!” Dr. Grace comes running to her and grips both her hands in his. “I have been looking for you for ever and ever! You have to sleep! Now!”

Oh, yes, she thinks fondly. Director Stratt made Dr. Grace promise that the party would end an hour ago. He gets all twitchy and sweaty when he defies one of her orders and he’s drunk so he must be falling into a panicked spiral of previously unknown proportions.

“It is okay, Grace! Look,” Olesya fixes the watch on her wrist and shows it to a drunk Dr. Grace. He tries focusing on it, closing one eye and peering into the watch and then shaking his head when he can’t read the numbers. “It is only one a.m.! We are fine to keep drinking!”

It takes her a little while, but she manages to get Dr. Grace properly back into his shirt before anybody else can take a picture of the poor man.

She’s not sure Director Stratt would forgive her if other people got away with objectifying her scientist.

Dr. Ryland Grace promises Director Stratt that his Mexican Independence Day celebration will not get out of hand. Too bad he's never been good at keeping his promises. Or his liquor.

    Summary

Grace touched the ends of her own hair where it reached just past her shoulders. She wondered what it would be like to have it long like that, or at least long enough to put it similarly in a hairclip.  How much practice would it take to make it look just as effortless as Stratt managed to? She imagined her own hair at that length, what it would be like to brush through it, or braid it maybe? Would braids suit her? Wait. Did Stratt ever braid her hair? She tried to picture what that would look like. Kind of… cute? Wait. Cute?

She must’ve stared a bit too long because Stratt looked up with an exasperated sigh, pausing her typing.

“If you are going to be disruptive you should leave.”

The question slipped out before she could stop it.

“Will you teach me how to do my hair?”

Or: Grace asks Stratt how to do her hair and learns more than that in the process.

    Summary

Grace wakes up to a hand gently stroking his hair.

It’s late at night, ostensibly. The room is lit a dim but deep yellow, and in the air there’s the quiet atmosphere of a late night study session accidentally stretched a little too far. This is rare, on Stratt’s Vat. Grace’s office is right in the middle of the carrier, which is only logical when it serves its full-time duty of storing cleaning supplies for the 300-odd people sharing the same somewhat cramped space.

The silence starts to make sense when Grace remembers that he isn’t in his own office.

Grace is rested. Stratt is overworked and exhausted. It's probably normal and fine to kidnap your boss' work device in order to force them to sleep.

    Summary

Riza didn’t truly care about what her father was going to continue monologuing about as he started coughing. Wet, heavy coughs, making the frail man curl in upon himself as tumbled out of his bed.

    And Riza just stood there.

“I finished it, ask the boy he knows where it–” he managed to get out, and Riza noted calmly how there was blood trailing from his mouth. Mustang had written to her a couple of months ago about it, just two or three sentences, and Riza hadn’t cared.

Even standing right there, she didn’t care.

    -

or, Riza ran away for military academy. It leaves Roy alone with a man who just finished fine-tuning Flame Alchemy.
