Summary
"I’ll be by your side, always.”
“Always?”
“Always.”
===
Fourteen-year-old Finnick Odair always imagined the Games as something far off—distant, inevitable, but not yet real. Then one ordinary day, he meets Annie Cresta. Suddenly, everything shifts. As Finnick grapples with feelings he's never faced before, the world around him lurches toward chaos. What happens when first love collides with the weight of everything to come?
Events prior to Finnick's Games, but prior to the 74th Games.

Summary
“Come on, Finnick. You’re seventeen years old for crying out loud. You should be here. Not living with those victors who aren’t even part of this community. You belong here, not in some Capitol-funded house with strangers.”
“I’m a victor too. I’ve killed people —“
“When you were fourteen years old! It’s different.”
I set the salt shaker down and glare at him.
“People are saying awful things. They’re saying you’re more Capitol than District now. That you’ve slept with who knows how many—“
He cuts himself off, too ashamed to finish the sentence. His next words come in a whisper.
“But I always tell them I know you. I know my son. You know what I see when I look at you? I see your mother. Your eyes...”
“I hate my eyes,” I mutter it almost to myself and am surprised to realize I’ve spoken out loud. “That’s what they all say. That they love my eyes. My hair. My skin.”
“Finnick. What you’re doing. No one’s forcing you, right? You’re willing—“
“I like the Capitol, dad,” I say quickly. “It doesn’t smell like fish, the buildings aren’t falling apart, there’s always enough to eat. Your friends don’t show up dead on the beach.”

Summary
My imagining of if Annie Cresta got her own prequel like Sunrise.
Nobody likes a mad woman. And certainly, nobody could ever love one.
When the reaping begins for the Seventieth Hunger Games, Annie Cresta volunteers. She's trained for this her whole life. She made the decision herself. It should be easy.
But as the arena draws closer, Annie finds herself caught in a net. It's not just her reasons for volunteering threatening to unravel, but the impossible feelings growing for her mentor, Finnick Odair. Once, he called her a mermaid. Now he wants her to become one, at least in the eyes of the Capitol.
Yet nothing can prepare her for what it means to watch children die up close, or what it takes to survive them. As Annie's grip on reality begins to fracture under the weight of Capitol spectacle, torture, and a rebellion that may or may not exist, she finds solace in the one person who will tell her what's real.
Even if he's drowning in secrets of his own.- a slow-burn pre-canon Annie x Finnick prequel. Canon-compliant but inspired by ABOSAS and SOTR, things are open for different interpretation and explained by unreliable narration and Capitol propaganda in the trilogy.
