“Those couldn’t’ve been cheap,” Eddie says. “Do we need to talk about your spending habits?”

Buck lets out a soft huff of laughter. “What are you, the flower police?”

“No, no,” Eddie says, shaking his head, his hair brushing against the side of Buck’s face. “If you wanna spend your hard earned money on fancy ass flowers, I’m not gonna stop you.” He nuzzles into Buck’s neck, his stubble scratching against his skin.

“It’s nice,” he says, his voice muffled. “No one’s ever bought me flowers before.”

Buck copes with unrequited love by maladaptive daydreaming, buying Eddie flowers, and lying to the farmers market vendor about his imaginary husband.

“I’m a lot,” Buck acknowledges, laughing awkwardly.

“I don’t ever want you to be anything less.”

Eddie says it like it’s the most simple thing in the world. Like it’s a fact. Buck is a lot, but Eddie doesn’t ever want him to be different. He doesn’t ever want him to change. The words stick to Buck’s sun-warmed skin and soothe some of the wounds that Tommy has inadvertently opened up.

Buck learned far too young that you should never make homes out of people.

When you have as much baggage as he does - boxes upon boxes of carefully wrapped trauma with fragile stickers taped to the sides - no one ever wants to help you unpack.

“Come on. You and me could—”

Buck caught Chimney moving to intervene between them but the words were already falling past Buck’s lips before he even realized he was speaking.

    “I have a boyfriend.”

Buck stopped when he registered the words.

So, did Chimney before he shot Buck a look over his shoulder like Buck had grown a second head. Probably because, like Buck, Chimney knew that Buck did not have a boyfriend. In fact, he’d been single for a painfully long time since he and Taylor split up. Single and probably very obviously hung up on his best friend who didn’t seem to notice the way Buck would throw himself into oncoming traffic if Eddie asked.

Prompt: Scarpia Ultimatum aka "I'll do anything if you promise not to hurt him!"

    Summary

“Listen,” Buck says when the silence has stretched on too long to bear. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow, alright? Get some sleep.”

“Wait,” Eddie says before Buck can hang up. “Just – take me to bed with you.”

    Buck pauses. “What?”

"Not – Jesus, not like that. I just meant – if it’s bothering you to be alone, then you don’t have to be.”

“Eddie,” Buck says, filled to the brim with so much fondness he’s afraid he might burst. “You don’t have to do that.”

    --

    Buck can't sleep. Eddie helps.
