    After getting captured and held hostage, Raph tries to blows off some steam by picking a fight with Leo, in the process saying something that hits a little too close to some insecurities Leo's been harboring. Leo responds with brutal honesty, leaving Raph regretting everything, and, of course, nothing stays private in the lair for long, so Don and Mikey quickly get roped into the angst, bringing along some issues of their own.

    Feelings will be hurt and healed, bonds tested and strengthened, and things left unsaid finally put out into the open.

    They’d been rerouted from the highway. Leo didn’t know why, but suddenly the GPS was taking them through an alternative side-route. It was probably to avoid traffic or some sort of construction, but so far Leo wasn’t very positive that this was saving them any time. Not with how slow Raph had to drive through the snow. Not with how dangerous this seemed to be. The roads were clear when he checked before their little trip, but he hadn’t checked this particular pass.

    He should have checked before they followed the route.

    This is a companion piece to "The Day the World Broke," set in Dimension Z, an alternate dimension where mutants and humans co-exist together. In a timeline where the world didn't break, Leo and Raph still find a way to experience the Horrors.

    Of course, nothing ever went Leo's way. Why would they? The universe had it out for him, he knew it. A wanted poster pasted on the fates wall. 'This one', he knew they’d say, 'this one deserves it'.

    Maybe they’d just cut the leg right off, maybe they’d slice him down the plastron. Maybe they’d let him die. Wouldn’t that be something, Leonardo, leader, brother, killed because his knee hurt a little.

    With that, he pushed his arms to move, blocked the sword, and stood the fuck back up. Pain was in the mind, anyway. What was a knee to him? He could overcome anything, and he would overcome this.
