Summary
There are a seemingly endless number of firehouses spanning the entire expanse of Los Angeles, the large city too massive and too hazardous with never ending, unexplainable incidents for just one firehouse to cover entirely. It would make sense that a random citizen of LA walking past the 118 may think that the building is just another firehouse - it looks like the others, the uniforms are the same, the job is the same.
What the citizens of LA don’t understand is that the 118 is more than that. The 118 at its core is a family.
The walls of their firehouse were strong, just like the bonds they built inside of them.
But to anyone who could only see the walls, who could not see the family being fostered inside of it, would also not notice when those same walls started crumbling.

Summary
Evan Buckley once told him that the universe was screaming at him and he refused to listen.
But, of course, Eddie continued to ignore his feelings for his responsibilities and responded “The universe does not scream,” and moved on.
Evan Buckley was the one thing in his life that could convince him that the universe and all its magic and fate were real. Eddie wishes he listened to Buck that day, wishes he opened the locked dark room he resides in and let the sunshine and magic that is Evan Buckley in, let him convince Eddie that the universe does listen.
But he opened that door too late.
And he found out the hard way that, yeah, the universe does scream.

Summary
Buck’s eyes widen and he gasps, walking a few steps toward where Eddie drove off even though it’s impossible to catch up to him now. He stands there for a few minutes, settling in the realization he’s just had. Realizing the enormity of the situation he and Eddie have on their hands now. What Buck just let walk away from him. Why he’s been so fucking extra and possessive when it comes to Eddie, more than normal.
He eventually can’t stop the shivering, the rain too cold to keep standing under. He turns and walks slowly back to his truck, climbing in and sitting quietly in the warmth, his hands gripping the wheel too tightly. He only has one thought on his mind now...

Summary
“Do none of you care about the children? It’s a bachelor auction, and you, my friend, are a bachelor. Abracadabra, put your name on the list.”
“I can’t,” Eddie repeats. He can’t. He cannot. “I’m not.”
“You’re not? Since when?” Chimney frowns. “Who?”
It’s not Eddie’s fault that, at that exact moment, Buck walks in. So it’s not his fault that he opens his mouth and says, “Buck.”
Or, Eddie trips and falls into a lightly fraudulent HR-disclosed "consensual romantic relationship" with his best friend. Really, if you think about it, it's a win-win.

Summary
"Hey," Eddie says. "Can we go outside for a minute?"
Buck looks up and his face is carefully neutral, which on Buck is the equivalent of a five-alarm blaze because this man has never been neutral about a single thing in his life.
"Sure."
They leave cash on the table and step out into the parking lot. The air is heavy and thick with honeysuckle and asphalt and the far-off electric promise of rain. The cat is gone and the neon sign buzzes above them, pink and sputtering.
"I don't want to stay here tonight," Eddie says.
Buck’s eyebrows tick up. "Okay?"
Hesitating, cutting a look back at the diner, Eddie says, "Look, I know we were gonna find a motel somewhere around here but this place doesn't sit right with me. I can't explain it. I'd rather just keep driving."
He's bracing for Buck to push back, to ask what specifically feels wrong, use this as a doorway back into the booth and the hand and all of it. But Buck just looks at his face for a second and nods.
"Yeah. Okay. Let's go."

Summary
“Eddie,” Buck tries. “You could, uh… I get why you asked for two rooms, but maybe we should…” The bed is small. They’d be touching all night, and that would be bad, given what happened last night—it would be terrible; Buck definitely doesn’t want it.
He doesn’t want Eddie pressed against his chest, doesn’t want his soft, steady breath at his ear. He doesn’t want it so bad that he says, “Splitting up gets people killed in horror movies.”
Eddie’s answering smile is surprisingly soft. “We’re not in a horror movie, Buck.”

Summary
“How did you get home from the hospital?”
“Took an uber.”
“Does Maddie know?” Silence. “Does anyone?” More silence. More of Buck refusing to meet his gaze, staring at the door like he thought he could entice Eddie to leave by the power of suggestion. Well, good fucking luck, Eddie thought. Wild horses, and all that. “Why didn’t you call anyone?” he demanded. “Why didn’t you call me?”
“I did!” Buck snarled. The momentum of his indignation carried him into a sitting position, and Eddie could see him flinch with the pain of it. His unnaturally stoic front was gone, and something raw and wrenching took its place; it occurred to Eddie that he’d never heard Buck raise his voice before. “I did call you, Eddie! As I was bleeding out on my kitchen floor. You. Didn’t. Answer.”
---
The squatter in Buck's attic has a knife. Buck has a bit of a breakdown. Eddie has a plan to make everything right.
