Stan was supposed to take the journal. He was supposed to say, “okay, Ford! I’ll leave and never come back!” and take the journal and leave and bury it somewhere and then Ford was supposed to be able to live, to sleep again. That was how it was supposed to be.
But it didn’t happen. Because of course things couldn’t be that easy.
(or: Stan doesn't take Ford's journal, but it's a lot less.. violent and backstory-creating. Deus ex machina ensues.)

Marinette leaned over her balcony, staring at the Eiffel Tower that glittered in the night with the lights that decorated it. The blue-haired girl sighed, taking in the city below her, wishing things would’ve played out differently. She reminisced the night Chat Noir visited the very balcony she was standing on, offering her a red rose- a symbol of his romantic affection towards her. They never quite ended things properly, leaving her wondering if it was right for her to move on to Adrien once more. She never told him about that night, in fear of worrying him about her feelings for Chat that she’d stowed away all those weeks ago. She wished she didn’t feel like she had to forget him so easily. Going from a romantic evening with one of the saviors of Paris to becoming…something with Paris’s most famous model wasn’t an easy adjustment for her, especially with everything moving so fast. Some part of her wished to forget him so fast, but when you’re also secretly fighting alongside him, it’s hard to forget and move on.
