Summary
Keith had the displeasure of learning a bit more about his heritage, and is dead set on hiding this new information from the rest of team Voltron. The only problem seems to be Lance, who isn't quite acting like himself, and is orbiting Keith like a lost moon. Nevermind the repeated sacrificing himself for Keith in the midst of battle... Does Lance value his life at all?
Lance wonders what makes himself think he could even have a sliver of a chance with Keith, pilot extraordinaire and the temperamental red paladin of Voltron. Struggling with insecurities he's been hiding for years, Lance straightens his "funny guy" mask and attempts to fix the weird ridge he's made between them. “My Abuela said it,” Silvio insists. “She said you have to wear the hat, because you have a pale ass so you’re going to get skin cancer and die before Lance even wakes up.”
Keith looks between the children and the hat, too confused to glare, sweaty and horrid from pulling weeds beneath the scorching sun. “What?”
“That’s wrong,” Nadia complains, and yanks her brother down to her level to whisper the correction in his ear.
“Ooh,” Silvio amends. “Tía Veronica said you have a pale ass. My Abuela said you’re gonna die.”

When Lance is fatally wounded during their final battle, the blue lion enters a deep hibernation with Lance inside. Unsure when or if he’ll wake, Keith is forced to wait and watch over him in the company of the people he fears most: Lance’s family.

The angel was now muttering to himself with a distinct southern twang. Lance had never heard of angels with Texan accents... so maybe...
“You’re not an angel,” he slurred. The not-angel let out a huff of laughter.
“Yeah, no. Can you move? Why are you even in the middle of the desert?” This not-angel was rather pushy, Lance decided. He needed to learn his manners. Would it kill him to say ‘please?’
“Go ‘way,” he mumbled petulantly.
“C’mon, I can’t leave you half-dead on the side of the road,” the not-angel pleaded, a hint of frustration slipping into his voice. "Work with me here.”
Lance squinted at him. Slowly, his night vision improved, and the outline of his savior began to take shape.
