A year after the events of Zurich, Martin is happy. Or well, somewhat happy. Possibly. He’s not unhappy, because why would he be?

    Summary

Wyck feels at first like he should be offended at the overt implication in this; he’d just put effort into assuring Tom that he wasn’t a bad person, you’d think he’d do him the courtesy of returning the favor. Forget about the fact that he likely hasn’t thought of himself as good for an incredibly long time—there’s a difference between telling yourself that sort of harshness and having someone else say it to you. Then again, this is just a conversation between two reflections; could he really be surprised when they wind up saying the same thing?

The next worm in line that wriggles up into his head is: Did Tom Loftis just admit to wanting to kiss me?

    Summary

They're standing close, Jack's hand on Robby's shoulder, almost where it meets his neck. They're talking about nothing, voices low, Jack's thumb slowly strokes back and forth, just once. Robby smiles at something he says, that real smile that makes his crows feet sink deep.

"When's the honeymoon?" Dana asks, and suddenly the real world crashes in. Robby steps back.

Jack grins, bright as the sun, always ready to play. "Next week. Two weeks in Bali, just me and lover boy over here." He slings an arm around Robby, pulling him close. Pats his chest twice, right over his heart.

Robby snorts. "Bali? I specifically requested somewhere with no sand." Jack's the one who hates sand, but he can pretend. He can play. Jack so loves to play, to tease, to drive Robby insane.

"Sand's everywhere, sweetheart," Jack tells him. The pet name warms him, even in jest. Same as the hand, still resting on his heart.

"It certainly will be after a two week beach honeymoon," Robby shudders, horrified at the very thought.

"Okay enough, enough," Dana groans. "Patients. People dying. Stop flirting and work, for the love of god."

Almost in tandem, they moved to the middle of the bed, curling up next to each other. Arms slung over waists, Robby’s face in Jack’s hair, Jack’s face against his neck. A sigh of contentment.

“Yashenka moy,” Robby murmured, leaning his head against him.

Jack’s answer came immediately: “Mishenka moy.”

    My Jack. My Robby.

They were words that had been spoken thousands of times: whispered into necks, exchanged over traumas, said across rooftop railings. It meant: I’m here. I’ve got you. You’re not alone. It’s just us. Take my hand. We’re in this together. It's you and me.

Simply put, it meant: I love you.
