The deaf spot of all Eridians is silent, open air. A piece of the crumbling biodome’s ceiling finally snaps from its connection point and plummets. It falls towards the abandoned shore, unapologetic to anyone who may already be down there.
Rocky can’t realize something’s quickly approaching them until it’s far too late.

Set hundreds of years after the end of the book, a case of wrong-place/wrong-time leads Rocky to a catch a glimpse of what and who might be waiting for them beyond.

Summary
Distantly, Grace recognizes what he's experiencing is either impossible or has already happened -- but it doesn't make the nightmare any easier to process. The science behind dreaming and nightmares is easy to explain to an Eridian. The emotional turmoil that comes with it is...not so much.

I am participating in @seth-whumps Whumperless Whump Event for July 2026!
Get ready for 31 different stories featuring our lovely Ryland Grace. These are mostly stories about Grace and Rocky's relationship through the lens of whump, but Adrian, Carl, Stratt, original Eridians, and Colt are featured as well.

But Rocky uses another claw to grab a tissue and wipe at his skin. His touch is always surprisingly tender for being a rock.
“Did you think…” His voice trails off. “Did you think I was gonna -”
“No,” Rocky says immediately. “Grace sick. Grace hurt. But Grace no die.”
Grace nods. “I wouldn’t have gotten through this without you.”
Rocky dabs the tears around his eyes away. “Rocky would not be here without Grace.”

Summary
Carl shifts. "There's something we want your input on." For a split second he looks almost uncomfortable. Good, Grace thinks vindictively, but whatever joy he gets from seeing Carl briefly flustered disappears with the next words out of his once-friend's mouth. "It concerns the manner of death."
And suddenly Grace remembers all too clearly a time not too long ago, one of the most awkward and unpleasant moments of his life, sat down with Commander Yáo and Ilyukhina and DuBois, asking them how they would like to die.

Summary
Roche limit: the distance from a celestial body within which a second celestial body, held together only by its own force of gravity, will disintegrate because the first body's tidal forces exceed the second body's self-gravitation.
As the distance between the Hail Mary and Erid shrinks, as the language and cultural barriers disappear, Grace's health deteriorates and Rocky's worries skyrocket. Scurvy, cabin fever, malnutrition, tension and arguments – their friendship is put to the test when they are faced with challenges they cannot science their way out of. When a sudden Taumoeba emergency disrupts their journey just as they are about to reach Erid's radio range, they are forced to take a detour to Threeworld's Petrova-line to prevent Grace from starving to death. It's one thing to complete a mission when at full capacity… but how do you tackle obstacles you cannot fix with math and engineering?Series
