Derek is a free-lance programmer living on his own (if you exclude his cat, Romulus) in a small apartment, as well as a frequent customer at 'the Beanstalk', a coffee shop where his most prominent annoyance, Avery, works as a barista, and doesn't seem to know how to stop bothering him.
