    Summary

"Everyone on Roshar, for as far back as history stretched, has had a unique sprawling tattoo of a vine that descended from the base of their neck, splitting across their backs, and wrapping around their arms. From those vines grew different rockbuds, each one present from birth. They represented a person’s soulmates: people whose presence in your life would forever leave you changed."

Kaladin of Hearthstone had eleven rockbuds along the vines adorning every Rosharan's arms. When his brother and familial soulmate dies, the wilted flower on his right hand serves as a permanent reminder that he can never, ever let such a failure happen again.

The vines along Shallan Davar's arms are uniquely shattered, though thankfully they leave her unbloomed soulflower at the base of her wrist healthy and in-tact, as far as she can tell. When her house is thrown into disarray by the death of her father, a wild plea to a wayward heiress to the Alethi throne quickly turns from a heist-in-the-making to a frustrating romance with the most beautiful, stubborn woman she's ever seen.
