Summary
Maverick was raised to think sharing a heat with an omega, who isn't your mate, is improper. Ice and Slider apparently don't share that thought. Also, he shouldn't be expected to provide for someone else's omega. Why did Slider give him a grocery list?

Summary
Ice is rehearsing it all in his head as he makes his way to the kitchen—It's not my choice. I have orders. I didn't ask to do it. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry—but he stops in his tracks when he passes the threshold. Maverick is standing in the middle of the kitchen, facing the sliding glass door that looks out towards the beach. He's leaning heavily on his cane, dressed in his blues, two stars on each shoulder board.
And it's not just the uniform that throws Ice off. Aside from the cane, Maverick is standing with his back perfectly straight, feet shoulder-width apart. Perfect parade rest, so still that he rivals a statue.
Oh, Ice thinks, he knows.

Summary
Pete Mitchell has never been legible to anyone except Nick Bradshaw.
The problem is, Nick Bradshaw has been dead for over thirty years.
There is a formation flown at military funerals where one plane breaks away and doesn’t return. The gap it leaves is the point. The absence is the whole message. Maverick has been flying that formation alone for three decades, and it turns out, if you go fast enough, even the worst things stop being able to catch up to you. He has built an entire life on that principle.
Then Carole Bradshaw hands him a battered leather logbook with nothing written inside the cover except ‘Pete’. And for the first time in thirty years, Pete Mitchell has nowhere left to fly.
