Summary
Max had learnt to hide his pain well. It was something he was taught to do since he was in Go Karts. Through the rough blows of his father's calloused hands, and his mother's concerned gaze when she saw him holding back tears. He knew better than to show his emotions. So he sidestepped the questions, white lied about it to the media. Max was happy– as happy as a man who was in physical pain could be.
And after what had felt like hours, Max could finally stop pretending in the comfort of his four walls that his entire fucking body wasn't killing him.
[or, the crash in qualifying was more physically taxing on Max than he let on]

Summary
Charles tutted softly, “Max?” he elongated the word similar to how a parent would chastise a child. “One more time to me.”
Max felt himself go numb. He refused to look at Charles. How could he? More importantly, why was he still stood there like an idiot, allowing himself to be scolded like a five year old?
When no response came from Max, Charles reached up and slowly turned his head towards him, fingers lingering a second too long before dropping.
”Want to try that again?”
Or, Max is a difficult little shit and Charles gets assigned to be his new race engineer.

Summary
The fight on Boxing Day 2020 end with Ilya asking Shane for a break and Shane walking out the door. Ilya never thought that will be the last time he saw Shane, for a very long time. During this time, everyone Shane loved struggle to cope with the grief, some better than others. Ilya stays in Ottawa and watches over Yuan and David Hollander, grieving their only son, and each in their own, do not survive it. Hayden searches for answers in the wreckage of his best friend's disappearance, turning over events in memory, unable to shake the feeling Shane told him something before he vanished.
When Shane finally reappears, enduring the unthinkable, broken and barely recognizable, what comes next is harder than anyone anticipated.Or: AU after the Boxing Day fight in The Long Game. It's a story of grief, found family, a love that withstands hardship and passage of time, and the most unlikely friendship. Recovery is slow and costly and nonlinear, but that's what makes the happy ending hard won. Major Character Death warning are not for Shane or Ilya.

Summary
The Dunning-Kruger Effect is a cognitive bias in which people with limited knowledge in an intellectual or social domain overestimate their own knowledge or competence in that domain. When people gain more knowledge, their confidence often decreases as they become aware of how much they do not know.
_
Fernando has spent years building his life on certainty, on confidence. Across races, seasons, decades, he has learned to trust his knowledge and ignore everything that strays from it.
But certainty is not the same as truth.
