It happens quickly. Caught up in a fight with sorcerers who want Arthur dead, Merlin gets a dagger in his chest. Arthur brings him back to Camelot, to Gaius, but it’s too late.
As Arthur watches Gaius clean Merlin, he is dumbfounded by the array of scars on Merlin’s body. How had he gotten so many? How had Arthur never seen any of them before? Had Arthur known Merlin at all, or was he really just a stranger?
Then the unimaginable happens, and Merlin is alive again. Now Arthur has to grapple with who Merlin really is, who Merlin’s been all along, and who Arthur wants to be in response.
