    After the battle at Katur, the crew of the Zephyr wake up Torse and decide to celebrate both their success and their survival with a party. Torse makes the discovery that Maxwell knows how to dance, and the next day asks Max to teach him how.

    “I have very little experience leading Polka but I’ve followed it decently before,” Max explained to Van, still standing next to Torse.

    Van’s smile somehow grew wider. “Fantastic! I’ll lead.’ Her tentacle arm shot out and grabbed Maxwell by his right arm then pulled him across the deck over to her. Torse tilted his head at the sight. He had never seen Maxwell look that comfortable touching someone except in combat. 

    Something familiar stirred in his iron heart.  Not quite desire, but ache. He ached for a golden heart with space for more than rage, just as he seemed to ache at the sight of Maxwell and Chapman’s energetic dance across the deck. For all that he did not breathe, Torse knew a visceral understanding of the phrase ‘Sigh of relief’ once Maxwell and Chapman’s polka was done.
