“Some instagram prompt, eye-dee-kay.” Phil wants to kiss him for that stupid, over-emphasised shorthand. He settles for nabbing Dan’s phone, his own forgotten in the rug fluff.
“Barack Obama in 2015. No idea what, maybe a warning.” Is Phil’s first answer. “Myself in 2012, maybe. I could do what that etymology guy’s doing right now.”
“You could do it now, too.”
Phil rolls his eyes. “Well, now it’d be copying. I could do a segment, maybe, but then that’s two segments.”

“Drink the water, Dan. You don’t know if there’s something wrong.” He does, but that’s besides the point when Phil’s like this. Dan pushes himself up on Phil’s hip to get the glass he kept on the floor next to the bed, and internally delights at how good water tastes after some exercise. Phil, meanwhile, counts the hickies he’s left all over Dan’s side.

Out of nowhere, Xander pulls Willow backward into a hug.
“Oof!” she wheezes, midsection squashed by Xander’s embrace. “Xander, what’s that about!”
“Nothin’,” he says, resting his chin on top of her head. “I just love you.”
His arms are comforting, encircling her waist, warm and solid, and she thinks that maybe she could live like this forever. She wants to bottle the feeling of safety that her friends give her, wants to feel this secure all the time. Sometimes it’s hard to be Willow as she is, Willow with her long hair always in her face and her too-quiet voice and her fifteen-year-old insecurities, but the two of them– well, Xander and Buffy make it a little bit easier.

Her breathing slowed down as she thought, and she looked back up at her, eyes wide.
“I like Simone,” she said, rubbing her eyes. “It’s french, but the english version of it is fine. She was a philosopher, and she said that a woman isn’t born, but is made over her lifetime. I feel like I have some catching up to do, since that’s the case. Figures I should be named after an existentialist after being named after a theologian for so long.”
“That’s… huh,” Susie mused, a smile on her face as she did. “That’s a very… Simone answer to that question.”
She pulled back her hoodie, this time for the last time today, she hoped. Her hair was so soft under her fingers.
“I wouldn’t worry too much about what you’re gonna look like, ‘cause you’re gonna be a very pretty girl when it’s all said and done. One must imagine Simone happy, you know? No matter how absurd her life gets.”
