Flux blinked. "What?"
"The retreat. You'll be stuck in the same place for three days. He can’t run away." She shrugged, like it was the simplest thing in the world. "Sounds like the perfect opportunity to me."

Somewhere far, far away, there was a massive crater within a ring of tall obsidian walls, rubble strewn all inside the sinkhole. It had stopped smoking a long time ago, and the ash and dust had long settled. The ruins of the underground chamber had not been touched in almost a year. Until-A pebble skittered, then another. Rocks were moved. Boulders were shifted. A slim, pale hand reached down into the dead ruins of a long-ago memory. Slowly, the hand pulled something out of the rubble. A spyglass.
