Summary
Patroklos is the sun, the moon, and the stars that litter the night. He is as refreshing as the streams that trickle down from high in the mountains, as sweet as a late-season fig, and not quite as gentle as his namesake—through, Pyrrhos guesses, just as dear to Zeus. Would it not put his life in danger, Pyrrhos would even compare Patroklos’ fairness to that of Apollo. Pyrrhos, by contrast, is little more than a half-failure of a general’s son, a statesman by virtue of nothing more than his birth, a middling orator at best. Patroklos’ affection is a gift that Pyrrhos will not squander.
The hand on Pyrrhos’ head knots itself in his curls, yanking roughly. Pyrrhos grimaces as he is pulled away from Patroklos’ body, his head held uncomfortably angled upward. All the better to praise his god, Pyrrhos thinks.
