To be honest, I’m not exactly sure how we ended up being involved. Frances had asked Juliet to ask Fereshteh for some advice -- apparently, almost a year ago, their fanbase had figured out who Frances and the original podcast writer were, and they were still being harassed about it. So Fereshteh and Juliet called Bliss, who never found out what our record label had done to try and make the fans calm down. This somehow turned into Jimmy telling Lister and me, and Lister saying “It’s entirely pointless trying to figure out what they did because the only thing that worked was distracting the fans with my stabee status update with no context,” which apparently meant that the only logical thing for us to do now was to agree to a random collab with them to absolutely befuddle the fandom.

“No, Damian,” she says, and starts off walking, forcing him to come after her as the rope tugs taut.
“Are we doing another survivalist exercise?”
“No,” she says. The air clouds with the word, just for a moment. “There shouldn’t be any crevasses, but if I start to fall, cut your rope immediately. Understood?”
“Then I can’t stop your fall,” he argues. She gives him a look, just the briefest glance over her shoulder. “Understood.” They crunch on for a minute. “Navigation, then?”
“No.”
“Exercise or test?” he asks.
“Neither.” They crunch on for a moment. “You should think of saving your breath, it’s a long way down.”
That’s not an order, however, so he’s free to push. “So we’re leaving Kohe Hevad.” She doesn’t reply. Damian squirms for a moment, but there’s no way to turn his question into a guess, cut off its open end. “Where are we going?”
“Gotham.”

holy shit holy shit holy SHIT I AM SOBBING ON THE FLOOR
the author has such an amazing way of writing dick & brce. that ruins me every time. like they are very inescapably linked and this fic is THE epitome of like how far it can go. the style, the prose, the words make me soooo feral if anyone was in the room w me while I was reading this they would think I was playing some kind of olympic reaction sport. and the setting !!!! im not really an apocalypse girlie but they way you world was written is SO GOOD!!!! and this is probably a very specific thing but like the choices made to parallel canon in this au are AMAZING !!!!! its close to canon but also very much distinctly its own thing. also dick in the entire fic was my roman empire. pierced straight thru the heart.
all that to say. this fic is a gift to this earth and I am so so so so happy to have read it bc it broke my brain a lil but In a good way. and I will be rereading this a million times probably -
