Summary
“D’you really speak three languages?”
Nancy Wheeler. Perfect, prissy, Nancy Wheeler. Robin never really noticed her in high school. After Starcourt, it's difficult not to notice her—especially since she's spending an awful lot of time at the Family Video store these days.

Summary
They lock themselves into a competition of sorts, seeing how far they can throw a rock into the air. It’s a stupid game to play, on the cusp of adulthood. Steve wonders if there are any fish in the lake. What are they thinking right now, as rocks rain down onto them?
Steve voices this concern.
Jonathan pauses with his arm behind his head, preparing for another throw. He looks at Steve and chuckles. “They’re just fish, Steve. I don’t think they’re thinking anything.” He throws the rock. It goes further than any of the others. -

Summary
The four of them—they are a mess, but it’s going to work. It has to, because they have no other choice. It’s like what Nancy said: for every one of them, there are only three other people their age that they can really talk to, that will understand them.

Summary
Robin plays guitar and loves Jeff Buckley. Nancy is a popular girl dating Steve, the popular boy, and she barely knows Robin exists. Robin is hopelessly in love with her.
Or: Hallelujah is the best song ever written, Robin is gay, and they're all just teenage dirtbags, baby. -

Summary
"It doesn’t help that Dustin keeps talking about the Snow Ball. It’s stupid, of course, but Steve can’t help but be a bit annoyed at the fact that this kid danced with Nancy and he didn’t. It sounds so much more immature when he thinks of it like that. Maybe he’s been spending too much time around children."

Summary
“Boris,” Theo says without thinking, “do people think we’re dating?”
“Sure,” Boris replies, “happens all the time. Probably because we’re both gay. Anyway, do you want vanilla ice cream to go on top?”
Or: Boris “fuck-me pumps” Palikovsky and Theodore “gay and homophobic” Decker realize that, as the two worst people on the planet, they’re pretty much made for each other.

Summary
Jonathan's kind of relieved when his mom orders him and Nancy into separate rooms for the night.
It's not that he doesn't love her. Really. He's just way too fucking exhausted and in way too much pain to think about their relationship right now, much less talk about it, and he's got a feeling that the next time he and Nancy are alone together, they'll be talking for a while. Sleeping next to Steve Harrington is worth it to push that conversation just a little bit further into the future.

Summary
It takes Robin a few seconds to come up with a simple, yet elaborate answer.
"I wish I knew more about the future." She stops in her tracks and smiles. "And you — I wish I knew more about you."
It feels weirdly intimate; the way she says it. It sounds like a thing a guy would say to her on a date. Now that she thinks about it, Robin would be the perfect boyfriend: she's always giving her compliments, she brings her coffee in class, and she smells nice.
or: robin and nancy are just friends (but are they?)

Summary
Steve, still higher than the Empire State Building, told her he'd never eat edibles ever again.
Yet here he is, his pupils as wide as saucers, about to fall into the same state as last time. While he can say with confidence that he still doesn't like edibles, he knows that this time their dosage is not the reason for his anxiety. The only thing the drugs have done is bring some clarity to his ever racing mind and make his tongue come loose, and when Steve's mouth wants to speak, there is little he can do about it. He decides that there is no way around it.

Summary
"It really was random, this whole situation. The phone rang at 11pm. “You’re the only girl in my age range that I’ve spoken to more than once in the last six months. Can we talk? I’ll buy you a slurpee. I’m on my way.” "
robin never had many female friends. her anxiety and internalized shame about her attraction to girls led her to avoid forming anything real entirely. she'd never been good at getting out of her own head.
neither had nancy wheeler.
