Summary
Buck rests back against the couch and looks up at the ceiling. He kind of misses when he’d spend most of his time here. It’s been years; before Bobby died, Eddie moved, Chris left for Texas. Before Tommy. Before Marisol and Natalia. Before the lightning strike that killed him.
Maybe that was really when everything started to change. Buck hasn’t really been able to keep up because since then it feels like everything has changed so rapidly and irrevocably that his head just spins with it.
There was a time when the Diaz home felt like it was his home, and that’s just not true anymore. He wishes that wasn’t true.

Summary
By the time Buck is thirty-one, he’s one of the most popular players in the entire NHL. He’s taken his team to the playoffs almost every year, and they’ve even made the Western Conference Finals a few times.
He knows he only has so many years left. He’s had some pretty rough injuries, and he’s had a string of failed relationships to go with them. He’s starting to come to terms with the fact that, actually, hockey isn’t just something he loves - it’s probably the love of his life. He’s trying to be fine with that fact.

Summary
There’s a soft sound coming from the living room, talking, or maybe the tv. It’s not Buck’s voice. The talking turns into something else, and Eddie forces himself to walk further into the house.
“Hey, Buck, I - “
Buck jumps out of his seat and fumbles with the remote to pause the television.
“Jesus Christ, Eddie. You scared the shit out of me.” Buck shakes his head. “What are you doing here?”
“Oh,” Eddie says. Maybe he was wrong about being welcome. “I was bored. I just thought I’d come see what you were doing. I guess I could have called first, but you said it’s fine to just - “
“No, no, of course it’s fine. It’s totally fine. What’s mine is yours’, right?” Buck says, a little too easily.
Eddie glances at the paused television and suddenly realizes why Buck was so scared when he came in. Naked men. There are naked men on the screen.

Buck and Eddie watch Heated Rivalry together. It makes some things click into place for Eddie.

It starts with Eddie coming out of Chim’s office one morning while Buck makes breakfast. He’s smiling shyly, rubbing the back of his neck while he laughs at something Chim says. Buck’s trying to be less jealous of Eddie’s friendships with their friends, now that Chim is actually captain. It’s just, what does he have to talk to Chimney about in the office? What’s going on that he hasn’t told Buck about?

“H-hey.” He frowns; he’s sure he remembers seeing Eddie on the calendar to work today’s shift. He longs for the days he would know without question because any time one of them took a day off they were in constant communication anyway. He doesn't remember the last time Eddie texted him. “Where’s Eddie?”
Hen and Chimney share a look. It makes Buck stiffen. Something’s wrong. He can tell something is wrong.
“Buck, Eddie didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?” They share another look. Hen frowns. Buck can feel the panic rising up in his belly. If he’d managed to eat his breakfast, he knows it would be coming up. “What’s wrong? Is Eddie okay? Is it Chris?”

“So… yeah?” Buck asked, blushing furiously and holding both of Eddie’s hands as he lingered near the front door.
“Yeah. Definitely,” Eddie answered, flushing a somehow darker shade of red than Buck.
And, okay, Eddie knows that’s not exactly a conversation, but it’s as good as! So he and Buck are… something. But it’s nearly twenty-four hours later, and they still haven’t kissed.
Five times Buck doesn't kiss Eddie under the mistletoe, and one time he does.
