But the feeling welling up in Bucky’s chest, so big and unbearable that it crowded out the air in his lungs until he could barely breathe, so sudden that it nearly brought him to his knees, that was a surprise. He knew whatever expression was on his face right now wasn’t the right one, because Romanoff was—had been—an acquaintance at best, a friend of a friend, and yet here he was, struggling to keep it together at the news.
