Baihuquan was a small village in the Taihan mountains, kept alive by the spring that gave it its name, spilling forth from a crack in the rocks to form a small lake, and sustained by a shrine and the pilgrims who visited it. Yun Biqiu ventured there alone, not quite daring to tell anyone that he might have found a hint as to Li Lianhua's location. The spring was reputed to have healing qualities, and perhaps that was what had brought him there - or perhaps it was simply so out of the way that he thought it would be unlikely anyone he knew would accidentally stumble across him there. That latter conjecture was certainly plausible, knowing Li Lianhua as he did.
