I haven’t seen you in quite a while, Zuko.” Its voice was inhuman and tinged with restrained malice. “It’s been, what, two years?” It tutted, paralleling the sound of its many legs clacking across the dry land and brittle grass. It paused its motion. Katara looked up curiously but Zuko urged her to keep her face hidden against his chest, his hand warm through her hair. The monster continued, “How long do you plan to linger here?”
Some people take a wrong turn in this world and find themselves unable to return, lost on the far side of the veil. Katara learns that some people don’t end up there by accident.
