But life wasn’t fair. Life blinded him with headlights, life threw him into an endless abyss, and life forced him to listen to his loved ones’ breakdowns, but he could never see them. All he could do was walk and listen. Listen and walk.
But listening gets hard, walking gets boring, and holding on seems futile.OR

Summary
Techno didn't like kids, no, he actually despised them. But just because he hated them doesn't mean they needed to suffer like he had. Becoming a social worker had been a no brainer and he vowed that every kid he got would find their forever homes.
And his vow stayed true until Tommy Innit walked into his life. He became Techno's biggest challenge, but Techno made a promise and he wasn't one to break a promise because of a problem kid.
He just didn't realize when the problem kid became a little brother to him.

Summary
He could only watch as the bullet shot out. He shut his eyes, waiting for the pain.
It never came.
He blinked his eyes open, shocked to find his sights obscured by a broad-shouldered back. A flowing red cape, frazzled pink hair, heavy metal armor, and a broadsword. The figure turned around. His mysterious savior had a mask on; a creepy boar skull attached to his face by leather straps.
“Who--?” Tommy couldn’t even finish the thought before the very sword that saved his life descended down on him in an arc. Tommy jerked away, only to find that he didn’t even need to. It had been aimed for the man holding him.
“You’re better than this, Theseus,” the masked man chided in a gruff, familiar voice. One he thought would’ve been foreign by now. “You never should’ve let him grab you like that.”

or, Tommy and Techno are sworn brothers constantly at odds with each other. But only because they care so much. Not that they would say anything.

Summary
In his dreams, there had always been a voice. A soft melodic voice that sang their mother's lullaby. A more monotonous, but just as loving voice that promised he'd teach him to fight one day, once he was old enough of course. The doting voice of a mother laughs with a toddler as she gently tries to fix a small crown onto the boy's brow. And then there was the gentle voice of a father, that promised to always keep him safe from those who'd do them harm.
And in the morning when the boy would awake, he'd wonder who exactly he needed to be protected from.
"Tommy?" A voice called out from the doorway and Tommy grinned gleefully at the sight of his older brother.
"Dream!" He yelled, stumbling out of bed and into his arms, hugging the man tight. His brother returned the hug in kind, his hands pressing warmly into the spot on his back where his wings would ignite from for the first time in a few days, fully grown.
Surely Dream was all the protection Tommy would ever need in this world, right?
A knot of doubt coiled tightly in his chest.

Summary
Tommy is deeply, achingly aware of his friends’ kindnesses. Phil had been the one to offer a spare room, with the only catch being a cost of rent far cheaper than what it should have been. But Phil had only shrugged with a slight grin.
Phil is great like that. So is Techno. So is Wilbur.
Tommy…isn’t. He just isn’t. He has nothing to him, he’s substanceless—and he feels it, in the way that the frigid winds in the August nights threaten to blow him away, like he’s made of nothing but sand.
Tommy imagines that death will be like that. He imagines that he’ll close his eyes, and his body will finally break apart and decay right then and there. He imagines that that will be the only way his memory persists—like stubborn sand hidden in the creases of the carpet.

Tommy decides that life is just too much. His friends decide that Tommy is wrong.
(In which Tommy tries to kill himself, and his friends work to bring him back from the ledge).

Tommy, the epitome of bad luck in the city of L’manberg, is done.
You’d think that getting an eyelash in your eye or having a hangnail every now and then wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but when it happens consistently for sixteen years? Yeah. Kind of annoying.
And now superheroes and supervillains keep, quite literally, crashing into his life and he’s getting tired.
But, who would’ve guessed that his bad luck might end up being the best thing to ever happen to him?
