But they've had worse, and Dean figures that as long as Sam is alive and safe and with him, they can deal with everything else. But it turns out he doesn't know the half of it.     Warnings: Allusions to torture and mildly graphic self-harm. Allusions to schizophrenia but I'm not claiming to diagnose or portray it. …Yup, that should cover it. Sammy definitely gets the short end of the stick in this story, but I'm pretty indiscriminate with the whump here, so Dean and Bobby aren't really safe either…

    Something slides up his throat, and before he can stop himself, he’s choking into his hands. When he pulls them away, he’s shocked to find them covered in a red, brownish, dark color. Like coffee grounds.

    “Elle--” he wheezes, his eyes unable to look away from his hands. “Coffee grounds--”

    “Shit,” she replies, holding him steady as he begins to cough again. “You’re okay, you’re okay, Reid. Hotch!”

    The room spins. The last thing he sees before it all goes dark is her eyes seeing right through him, dark brown and full of fear and admiration.
