故事发生在唐代元和年间（具体来讲是元和中兴时间段，也就是公元805－820年，是指中唐时期，唐宪宗在位时因治国有方，国家政治一度回到正轨的时代，视为中兴之局。）的扬州（比较想写出元稹，白居易诗中那种犹败的感觉具体参考《嘉陵江二首》，《琵琶行》、《曲江感秋二首》，文笔浅陋，请多包涵）。之所以选择唐代，是考虑到唐疆域内民族融合性高的特点。富商公子但丁和失足狐狸精维吉尔之间的伪骨科（结义兄弟）恩怨情仇，仿明清小说体，非典型武侠小说。
