“Come on, Stevie,” Billy moaned into the longest parts of Steve’s brown hair. Hot puffs of breath against the nape of his mole dotted neck. “I can’t take it any more.”
Steve groaned back in reply, in annoyance at the distraction. He was studying dutifully. Book open and pages of school work fanned out. He was clutching his wooden pencil so hard in his hand it might nearly snap, though, and he wasn’t writing a single thing.
“Billy, I’ve got to finish this work, okay?” He explained.
But it couldn’t have fallen on more deaf ears.

“Hargrove,” he calls the name like a moan.
Billy’s eyes flick up to watch him. The tip of his smoke catching on his gasping suck of breath to burn bright orange. Yellow ash caught on fire tumbles to the ground. Falls across Billy’s fingers and making his fingers dirty. So fucking dirty. Must still be wet with beer. Wet with sweat. His skin and the leather over it clutches to the ash as desperately as Steve clings to the sink behind him.
“So are you just all talk, Hargrove?” Steve says with a sneer. “You gonna do something about it?”

The credits of ‘Halloween’ are still drifting across his screen. The pixels are a dim orange across a black screen. The main killer, Michael Myers, is listed as The Shape and an actor’s name that Steve doesn’t recognize.
The stillness after a horror movie, the calmness of floating alone in a boat atop a blackened lake, was surreal. Was comfortable.
Until, his phone rang.

“Daddy!” Steve watched the boy exclaim, eyes alight on Billy. His heart soared for some unknown reason in his chest. “I found you! I found you and Papa.”
Steve watched the confused look over take his boyfriend, well maybe not boyfriend, hookup, fuck—Billy’s face as those blue eyes then found his, utterly bewildered.
He shrugged his shoulders, still processing what he’d heard the boy call each of them, before scanning Max, who like her brother, gazed slack jawed.
El continued watching the boy, head still tilted. She shook it as if coming to an understanding and then turned to face all of them before replying with certainty: “Not a demodog.”

Or during the winter of 1985, after the Battle of Starcourt has ended and the Gate has been closed, a healing Billy, Steve, and the Party encounter Steve and Billy’s elementary age child, Teddy, from the future thanks to what they realize is a brief tear in the Upside Down. Now Steve and Billy, who have only tentatively begun to name what they are to each other, have to grapple with the fact that they somehow not just share a life in the future, but also a kid--not to mention they've got to find a way to get him back home.
