Summary
SUMMARY JUDGEMENT n., a judgement issued by a court of law in situations where there is no genuine dispute as to the material facts of the case.
It’s funny, the way a single story can define a man for the rest of his life. Conveniently, the story need not even be true.

Summary
In the Syndicates, you’re either good or you’re dead, and Fennec Shand is very, very good. Or, at least, she used to be. Maybe she’s lost her edge, or maybe the galaxy has just changed around her. Now the Empire is gone, and her Syndicate contacts aren’t taking her comms. Even the karking credits are different. Maybe it shouldn’t have been a surprise when a bounty hunter half her age with a contract for her live capture shoved a blaster into her stomach and pulled the trigger. But it’s just a setback, and Fennec can handle setbacks. She can even handle a new set of cybernetic implants and a Boba Fett imposter.
She’s remade herself a dozen times, what’s one more?

Summary
Bruce isn't sure what's more dangerous for his health these days: the sewage or the things people keep putting in the sewers for him to find. For the record, if it's a choice between E. coli and a mallet trap, he'll take the bacteria, thank you, and he'll take both over dealing with District Attorney Janice Porter. Pity no one's polling him on this kind of thing.

Summary
He spends so much of his time doing triage: Gotham’s crime rate, the lumbering behemoth of a company he’s been left in charge of, sometimes living and breathing people dripping blood onto the concrete. So what if it’s only sheer willpower getting him out of bed every day. He’s doing what he has to. He’s doing what’s expected of him.

Summary
Chiaroscuro—the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition.
Gotham is a filthy city, filled with sharp-edged, unpleasant people, but it works. They're making it work.

Bookmarker's Notes
Incredibly good Pacific Rim fusion. I love how sharp edged and complicated the Edgeworth/Wright relationship is in this, and the whole idea of a persistent drift is so interesting.

Summary
Maya protested, of course. She was fine! Or at least, if she wasn’t fine, it was nothing that a few rounds of cocktail shrimp couldn’t fix! Why did there need to be such a fuss over her? The police were already pursuing her kidnapper. She couldn’t tell them anything they didn’t already knew. So the best plan was to skip the police department and go straight to the hotel’s banquet hall, right?
But nobody listened to her. Or, rather -- Nick was listening to her very attentively, bending down to hear her better in the loud lobby, his mouth set in a thin line. Every time she paused for breath, he would nod and say, for the fourth or fifth time, “We’ll go eat, Maya. But first, the police station.”

Edgeworth was filling out a form in the courtroom lobby -- his pen leaving black slashes and impatient little dots in every box -- when he noticed the girl in front of the vending machine.

Summary
“I don’t expect you to become a defense attorney. It’s a difficult job, and it’s not for everyone. You might find out that you don’t like it. If you don’t, I want you to know that it’s okay to change your mind.”
The light turns green. A car honks behind them, but his father waits, eyes locked on Miles’ face for a second longer before he turns back around and they begin moving once again.
“I see,” Miles says, slowly. “But — I don’t think I’ll change my mind.”
—
A very short Edgeworth family chat in the car/on the way back from school.

Summary
“Come through here,” Halandil Fang says, gesturing him into the house.
It is odd, but nice. He looks very much like Thjazi. He does not sound, or move, like Thjazi at all. Similar enough to be comfortable and apart enough not to tug rough stitches in Azune’s heart loose again, ones that he had to put there now the Banner are all to be separated. Halandil moves with an elegant lethargy that Azune associates with the older soldiers he’s known, a certain economy of movement. Gentler than the old soldiers, of course. A bit more flourish maybe. That too.
(In which Hal loves all his children, including the one that Thjazi posted to his doorstep one day without any warning.)
